I’m still relatively new to the EPI program having just started in mid-February, but I did work with clients with Acquired Brain Injury prior to this position. There is research that the brain is not stagnant and can change – i.e. Neuroplasticity. Obviously, there is an optimal time period where gains will be the most. In Fraser Health we have the Action Based Cognitive Remediation Program (ABCR) that is being offered to our clients. It’s a pilot program. I have referred and am screening clients for this program. It’s 16 weeks long, has digital applications and application to real life function. However, if clients have a low IQ or have reached a plateau with their cognitive fxn, then that’s where environmental strategies, structure, routine and can be beneficial. This may allow a client to be more functional in everyday activities.
