Would this be helpful for families where you are?
It is challenging because so many times families have a hard time accepting that it is a mental illness. They are looking for other “factors/people/reasons” to “blame”. It is easier for them if they feel it is someone or something else that is causing this because then they feel that they can control it. My client’s mom asked me questions about client’s ‘inaction’ basically because she wants me to tell her how to raise her son. There could very well be a little bit of everything: counterwill, depression/anxiety/, negative symptoms, trauma of being diagnosed as psychotic, the list goes on…… I feel like most of the families of EPI could use family therapy. Clinicians need training on family therapy.
