I echo what has already been stated about medication adherence being challenging. It is always difficult to see a client improve for them to then decided, sometimes with family encouragement, to stop medication as they appear to be doing better. It speaks to the importance of trying to have clear and concise messaging about the importance of staying on medication for an extended period of time before considering stopping medication. One approach could be to provide the family with information about the benefits of medication and how it can help manage symptoms and improve the child’s overall quality of life. You could also address their concerns about side effects by discussing the likelihood of experiencing them and how they can be managed.
