I have found that family members have been supportive, but one specific client I am working with stopped taking the medications. The parents had connected with me as they were concerned the son had stopped. He felt, “I don’t have psychosis… so it’s fine.” The parents are aware of the importance with med compliance, but he doesn’t. He believes the psychosis only happened due to the amount of cannabis he was using. Having the conversation about the importance of medications especially within the first year… and up to the initial five years. He “believes” that it was a “one time thing, ” and only due to the amount of cannabis he was using.

Along with what Janine stated, I too look forward to learning new techniques to support him with his concerns; or lack there of.
