I just ran my first group session last week. I had 7 clients attended the group to learn goal setting and action planning. I found it important to manage the stage of the group as my clients were coming from different dynamics. I followed the steps to initiate, convene, format, and maintain the stage. I observed their different characteristics and levels of readiness to participate. When we were discussing daily activities, many clients echoed that they didn’t like to go outside. I asked follow-up questions to open the stage for them to share. There was a client who was sitting far away from the rest of the group ended up joining discussions and raised hands to share. I found this session informative to me to learn about my clients and prepare myself to meet at where they are.
