Great observation. I wonder if we updated this questionnaire today, has the term could we say instead “who in the family provides the bulk of care?” or “is there one family member who seems the most involved in supporting others?” As many have suggested, I would use these questions to prompt my own dialogue with families, as opposed to handing them a list of questions. Some questionnaires are developed in consultation with families, and used for research purposes. They’re often not developed with the intention of using the whole thing in day to day clinical contact, so by all means, use these as a starting place, to extend your awareness of what family members may be experiencing, and use words that fit the current family you’re working with.
