Reply To: Family Involvement

HI Palwinder, Thank you for sharing your perspective. Working this closely with families is very new to me as I am coming from an inpatient setting where the social worker was the one dealing closely with the families. I’m finding it rather intimidating to be quite honest but I’m also seeing how vital is is to have family involvement. As you said Palwinder; we as clinicians can gain so much information from the family which we could potentially never have access too. It can also be beneficial when clients are very ill and difficult to engage. We can connect with family members to provide us update and to aid their loved one to start to engage with services. I find a huge challenge is when a client has a strained relationship with family prior to their illness onset. How can we as clinicians help to potentially heal that relationship so that they can receive the full support they need from family members?
