I could not agree more to this, without family support and buy in it’s so challenging trying to get the client on board. A client I posted about is struggling with theirs; not compliant with oral medications, on extended leave and now has injection which has been problematic for them being so young and frail to receive injection into arm (not open to gluteal injections). The client raised these concerns about being uncomfortable with needles, acknowledged not being able to comply with daily oral meds and when we tried having a discussion around options. The mom asked me if I would be the one coming by every day to give the medication if we switched it, of course I cannot do that for sustainability, scope of practice, and creating dependence on our team, when I tried relaying this the mom snapped at me. It’s been so hard having open conversations and provide any education without family support.
